Default Cannot Locate Clunk, Here Are Symptoms.

EDIT: it was the radius arm!!

im so happy right now

I have tried since I have owned this thing to figure out this clunk sound. It has gotten worse since. I have removed my tire and checked everything..

Here is my Symptoms.
Clunks:
Under Drivers Foot Well
Braking
Turning

It seems like it could be a shock. But I have checked the shocks. I have bounced the truck up and down so much but can't hear it.

It also tends to sound like the brakes as it will CONSISTANTLY clunk at a certain point in the brake pedal and clunk when Im releasing at a certain speed. Say if I gave it a little gas to maintain 30MPH I could step on the brank and clunk begin to release the brake and clunk. However I jacked up my tire and spun it with engine. It would not clunk [maybe theres not enough resistance....] But I cannot move my brake caliper at all. No wiggle No anything.

It also Consistantly clunks in the steering. But Only while moving..

I cannot find ANY play in ANYthing.

What usually causes this? And if its the HUB what part usually fails.

Get under the truck and twist the drive shafts one way and then the other, how much play do you have? The more play there is the more clunk you will have when you hit the gas or lift your foot from the gas.

Thats not it. I hear that clunk too, but its totally not an issue. This is coming from the front left.

Also I have the ABS fused pulled, it was anti locking way too soon. But that was a while ago.

In that area I have seen bad tie rod ends and actually the nuts get loose on the steering box and a few other spots.

if all else fails hook up a set of wireless chassis ears to determine the noise.

Default Clunk

That Clunk is soooo familiar
Mine was the brake pad "floating". It would be lifted by the rotor when breaking and slammed to the other side of the brake pad rest, then it would settle down for the next time. When backing up, the rotor would lift it and "Clunk!".
Chech the pads for movement along the rotor
In my case the caliper was worn by the pads backing and I solved by fabricating a spacer to fill the gap, it's very narrow with tiny tabs to keep it in place. Works well.
I hope this helps you but for pictures, well there is more pressing things to do to the car.
If it is the pad floating, then PM me and I'll post a drawing of the spacer.
You need very tiny metal shears, mine is from dental supplies to cut metal for braces and gold crowns (my dad was a dental surgeon)

Wow Roving4Life, I actually know who Red Adair is! Well, not in person , but I know what he does and how well he does it.

Ill check out the brakes tomorrow but its so crazy. I keep jumping between what it can be.

It seems like suspension when the steering wheel turns the weight shifts and it clunks [no brakes required]

However Bouncing the truck does not recreate the sound.

It seems like its my HUB but I cannot find ANY play in it...

Im about to go check both brakes in the front to compare the left to the right.

Is grease in the dust cap a sign of anything?

I rotated my tires on my 01 last fall and now have the same type clunk. It seems to only clunk going slow over bumps in the road and when I make sharp aggressive turns back and forth... I figured it was a wheel bearing or upper or lower ball joint but seems to all be tight. I have to re-install my driveshaft tomorrow so I will check all the nuts and bolts at the steering box and tyrod ends...
