Default Can't get the CKP disconnected from ECU!!!

I have been battling with this for three days and twice just re installed the sensor to move the truck, last time into the garage to work out of the snow. At the moment I've got a string around the sensor from above and can provide tension while trying to find a release of some kind to press and, so far, nothing. Anyone have any tips on getting this wretched thing loose?

You need to better describe the problem you are having. Are you saying you removed all 4 bolt taking off the cover and yet the sensor will not come loose from the block?

Nope that's easy, I can get the sensor itself installed and removed in less than 10 minutes, it's the black connector at the back by the firewall I cannot get free.

Another thought would be to unbolt the retaining clip holding the CKP plug on the rear of the head. I agree the plug is in a tight place and I was not able to plug the new sensor in until I removed the plug for the ECU side from the retaining clip.

Already out of the bracket and facing up above the engine, I can reach the connector with one hand but can't seem to find the point on the connector that releases it or it's jammed in some way...

Borchera, do you mean a bracket other than the rectangular one visible from underneath or is there another bracket to allow more slack on the ECU side?
Thanks.

Default CKS Insdtall

Hello all! Newbe here. I to am about to finally tackle the very same culprit. There has been a lot of discussion on this topic. However I have been unsuccessful as to find the location or a photo in the "search " area. Google or the forums. I have the new part but have not found where to r & r.
I really did not want to hijack but this is one of the threads that came up during my search.
Thanks in advance I have really enjoyed my time on the forum.
Good luck to the op! I feel your pain & frustration.

The offending part is on the drivers side, if you lie under the truck looking up at the joint where that side of the manifold is connected to the continuing pipe (three 13 mm bolts hold it on) it is just above and behind that joint. I have had no trouble getting the protective cover off (two 7 mm screws) and then the sensor itself, held on by two 8 mm bolts with spacers underneath without dropping the exhaust as I've heard some do but I have fairly small hands. My problem is in getting the plastic connector on the other end to release, in fact I still have not gotten that apart but I can now take out and put back the sensor and cover in record time!
Good luck!

Strike the "8 MM bolts" those are little nuts that run down on the spacers which are placed on the threaded posts that the sensor slides down on.

I just jam my hand up there and unclip it. Try and pry open the locking tab instead of squeezing the release section.

This video may help others looking to replace the unit.
