Default Can't get front driveshaft out

I'm attacking the Major Service, and I figured I'd go ahead and replace all the u-joints. I've removed all the nuts and bolts from the front shaft, and the front came loose instantly. But the back is stuck to the fitting on the transfer case. I smacked it a few times with a rubber mallet, but it's pretty stuck.

Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

Tap it with a steel mallet. You'll need to shock it loose, something you can't do with a rubber mallet or a dead blow hammer.

If that doesn't work, use a penetrating oil. I'm pretty fond of a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF.

Are you also planning on replacing the centering ball, it is a must? Also make sure you put 1 grease fitting in each slip shaft and lube them good.

Well, the metal hammer worked. Thanks!

I do plan to replace the centering ball, and I have a question.

On the linked how-to he says "If it has been upgraded to the 1310 series which centering kit it takes will depend on whether the center head is greaseable or not."

Mine appears to be the 1310. There isn't a grease fitting on the outside of the centering head. Does that mean it isn't greaseable?

Any idea what the 1310 part number is for the centering ball?

Turns out I was wrong - it is a greaseable centering ball.

Also, after much research it turns out the part number is Precision/Moog 612 or Neapco 7-0081 (without the NG). I still can't find them locally, so I'll have to order one.

Thanks for the help!

Pics of it here:

It keeps the double u-joint from flopping around.
