Default Can't shift into drive from park

Hi all and welcome so yesterday after I got off work, I hopped into my baby and I couldn't shift into drive. When I press the brakes (and I believe it's) the TC case symbol illuminates on my dash. It's 4 tires with a circle and x inside it light that turns on. Now I've encountered this problem before, it was a long time ago so I don't remember what I did to clear it. I read that it could be the brake light switch which I did order a new one from AutoZone and install today but it didn't solve the issue. What do you guys think it could be? Maybe it was a faulty one and I can have them order me a new one or it could be something else entirely. Please help 🙏

You are correct that the warning light you describe is tor the transfer case; more specifically it indicates the center differential lock is engaged. I once had it come on in my truck spuriously when driving in slush. But that should have nothing to do with the problem shifting out of Park.

The brake light switch was my first thought when I read the title of your thread, but you say you replaced that and it didn't solve the problem. To double-check its installation and operation, have someone check to confirm whether or not the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is pressed. The brake lights will illuminate only when the ignition switch is at Position II.

Beyond that, you can manually release the shifter if you carefully lift up the shifter bezel to access the shifter mechanism.

There is a fuse that can affect this. I had to fix this on mine recently. Check fuse 25 on the internal fuse block. Under dvr side dash.

Oh yes I've been manually shifting in gear that way but I'ma double check and also have someone verify that my lights are on. This is like my 3rd brake light switch if that's the issue. Just in case I had AutoZone ordered me another and then I also I ordered an OEM from Atlantic British as a backup.

okay so I've confirmed that it is indeed fuse F26 and it keeps popping. Any idea why or what it could be?

I can't be certain. My diagram shows F25. This is for my 2004 Discovery. Earlier models have some fuse box differences. I show a 15A fuse.
The circuit drives the automatic transmission selector. I will guess there is a solenoid there that releases a pin mechanism. Perhaps your solenoid has a short?? Or the wire to it is shorted somewhere?
My diagram shows this circuit is at pin 2, at the trans selector connector. Wire color Grn/Ylw. I would try to measure the resistance in ohms at this pin.
