Can't shift out of park
I was in the hospital for a week and when I got home, my Disco II started right up, but it won't shift out of park. I have a vague recollection of other people discussing the XYZ switch. Could that be it?
Mine does this sometimes. XYZ switch needs adjustment. Is the light beside P lighting up on the bezel and P appearing on the dash? If not, give the lever a bit of a whack forwards to get a final fraction of a millimetre and hopefully they will light. That should allow you to move out of park and start the truck in neutral.
The other option is the brake light switch needing adjustment, as Dave said.

I don't know just where between the Arkansas and the Platte you are, but if there is an AutoZone nearby the switch that comes in the Duralast box is genuine Land Rover (and marked such). Unfortunately the price I'm seeing today at the AutoZone web site is about $10 more than what I paid a few years ago. Be sure to get the version pictured at the page linked below. It's the updated version, which presumably doesn't have the failure rate of the original design. It's not difficult to change the switch, just a little awkward.

Yes, the newer version is the way to go. Just read directions thoroughly, since you have to install switch, depress brake pedal and turn swich another quarter turn to finish installation. Plug is the same, but has pigtail.
