Default Car Cannibal and Other Rebuilt Engine Options

I'm looking into 03/04 rebuilt engine options (used is an option too but that's a separate issue). I've come across Car Cannibals in Okla City. They have some pretty sketchy dealings according to web chatter (right or wrong). Does anyone know anything about their rebuilt engines? Any other rebuilders out there with good reputations?

Default first..

First, forget the year 03...way to many issues. 04...not much better. Remember every year they made these there tolerences got worse and worse. i would go back to 2000-1999

They are cannon fodders....

Cannon fodder is an informal term for military personnel who are regarded or treated as expendable in the face of enemy fire. The term is generally used in situations where soldiers are forced to deliberately fight against hopeless odds (with the foreknowledge that they will suffer extremely high casualties) in an effort to achieve a strategic goal.

"Hopeless odds", sums up LR ownership best.....

Next, think top hat liners and any other gaskets then the ones people are using now as they fail... geeezzz..What a scam doing head gaskets on these POS is...sometimes twice or more...what coolaid did we all drink...

Seeing as you can get a 04 DII for about $3,500.00 with a blown engine and one that runs...well if you can call it that..... is about $8-$13,000.00. I would spend at least $8,000.00 for a engine drivetrain combo that would actually work. If i could afford a defender with a diesel, i would push my DII off a cliff....

We've had people on this forum get scammed by Car Cannibal.
I know nothing about their rebuilt engines, but I highly suggest you look elsewhere for a rebuilt engine.

Start here:

Roverland is a very trusted source, i've used them a few times and really like them.

Car cannibal has a lees than perfect reputation. I live close to them, but get all my parts used from e-bay or roverland in Florida.

You can put a 4.6 from a Range Rover in, but you will have to plug a couple of ports on the front cover. I would not suggest you put a 4.0 in yours (2000 to 2002.. If your crank and rods are ok, you can take a 4.0 block and swap your internals. The best bet would be to find an 04 motor to drop in.

Roverland is an option for used, but I wanted to explore rebuilt options too.

You are looking at an old Buick 215. Any engine shop can do the rebuild. Find a good engine guy locally...

And yes, 04 4.6 is my goal for the replacement.

Sorry bout that, check out Motorcars Ltd... They are a sponsor of the forum (or used to be). They have a good reputation as far as I know.

As far as I can tell, they only offer pre-'03 disco rebuilds.
