Default Castrol oil

Hi guys,

My independent rover mechanic used this motor oil in my 300TDi D1.
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/secti...tentId=7018628

Is this any good? Should I shift to RP or Mobil 1 next oil change.
Since I change my oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Does it matter?

That is a good oil, if you use full synthetic you can go every 5,000 miles.

Oil always matters in a Rover engine, is your's a diesel.
If a gas engine and you want something better then dino juice but not as expensive as a synthetic, try Castrol's blend which is 30% synthetic.
Make sure you use a good filter like a K&N 3001 or the Mobil1-301.

Thats good to hear
Yes Mike its a 300 TDi Diesel engine.
Ill change it after 3000 miles and shift to its synthetic counterpart.
Thing is, I don't think they supply K&N and Mobil filters here they always use the Coopers brand. [:@]
Can I still go 5000 miles with the Coopers brand?
I use the D1 for office work only, no off-roading, no trailers etc.

OT: Is the gear oil the same in the t-case and differentials?
Is differentials the same as front and rear axle gears?
I saw in the car shop last night Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W-90 is this what I need to buy?

I love castrol synthetic, it's all I use. I go back and forth between full synthetic and the blend that Mike mentioned.

The oil change is more based on oil and not filter. I'd order a few mobile 1 or K and N online have them shipped, but that's up to you.

Gear oil for t-case and diffs: Yes, same weight. For your driving, 75w-90 is perfect and be sure to use all synthetic oils. For people who do more off roading and put more wear on the t-case and diffs you can using a thicker weight, but for daily driving the above is good.

I use Mobil One Delvac 5w40 in my diesel and only use a different syn oil if I can't get the
Delvac.
I have used Castrol Syn 5w40 before and it worked well but I think that the Mobil keeps the motor cleaner.

Because you live in the tropics use 15w-40 or 15w-50 motor oil.
The Coopers brand oil filter is just fine. Yes you can still go every 5,000 miles with that oil filter.
I would use 75w-140 gear lube.
And yes, the front and rear diff and the t-case use the same fluid.
I do not know if you can even get a K&N or Mobil 1 oil filter for a 300TDI.
