Catalytic converter anti theft ideas.
Finally had my cats cut/stolen off my 2001 discovery 2.
Lift and bigger tires make it stupid easy to access.
Soo just wondering if anyone had some anti theft ideas floating around.
wasp nests available anywhere?
Heavy rebar welded to the system at the cats?
brackets cables anything?
Feel like a underbelly plate of some sort to limit access to the area may work well.
Anyone had success eliminating the cats and tricking the rear O2 sensors? If it were legal of course where your located.
just looking for ideas so the new set aren't immediately liberated from me..
and no room in the garage. The boats outboard costs more than a cat
Thanks for any input.

Well I know the aftermarket cat's don't get you nearly the $$$ as the OEM one's. If you put a skid plate under there they can still just sawzall right on thru it. Might add 2min to the job, but they don't care. There is video in Houston, TX showing a guy stealing a set in broad daylight from a Toyota Tundra while he's being watched. He just pops his trunk, tosses em in the back and drives off. Thieves just don't care these days!!

Yeah. Was 10am I heard them and then chased em off in broad daylight.
Was maybe 30 seconds from time i heard the cutting until i was outside.
Anything to slow them down or just look to be a pain in the ***. I feel like if they had seen it wasnt a quickie maybe they woulda passed it up.
Or avoid the issue all together and delete the cats somehow i suppose.

This is a concern. They hit cars in my neighborhood heavy this spring. Mostly targeting Priuses and Hondas, two on my street. I was told the european cats are desirable because the have more precious metals to meet euro standards. Not sure if it's true but the Land Rover cats have Land Rover stamped right on them. A deterrent would be good. I am considering a set up like this when I get a chance to mess with it. I think if it was steel it would slow down the effort.

I think belly plate would make them think twice about the effort. They could still probably cut the pipes higher up and back by the connector to the resonator but they couldn't get it out without cutting the plate off. I guess they could always cut the crossbars off but that takes time to realize and then execute. Most are probably in a cut pipe and run frame of mind and not looking to think about much more. The plate could be made fancy to protect the cross bars and more exhaust. I don't have fabrication resources at this time so not sure my approach yet. They need to choke off the cat selling at the federal level. At the moment jurisdictions are not working together and it's too easy to transport to a selling point.

A plate would create a heat issue. The cats get extremely hot and need to radiate heat or it will probably get very hot under the floor and cooking your front drive shaft, hoses and wires. I would rather install an alarm making extremely loud noise triggered by vibrations. It could also spray something like paint or bear spray as deterrent, but that could be dangerous to small children or animals if they crawl under the car and somehow trigger it.

Or weld razor wire around the area and make it a giant PITA
