CD-R audio discs won't play in OEM 1999 Land Rover Discovery stereo (& iPhone ideas?)
Hello, My friend has a 1999 Land Rover Discovery with the OEM CD changer/stereo. We noticed that recorded audio CD-R's we made wont play in the OEM stereo. The stereo will play store bought CD's just fine though. Do you know if we I can buy a certain brand blank CD-R that will be compatible with this old stereo? I remember that you can buy certain CD-R's that have some audio marker on them. (would that help?) What other tricks do you recommend to get CD-R's to play in this 99 unit?
Also, the ultimate goal is to hookup the iPhone to the stereo. Since the 99 doesn't have a built in aux jack, what is the least expensive method to hookup a line-in into the OEM stereo? A tape adapter would sound like garbage I'm sure. I know blitzsafe has adapters but they are quite expensive.

He doesn't really want to replace the whole stereo so he can keep the "stock" look of the car.
Suggestions/Thoughts?

I use Memorex cd-r blanks and they work great. never had a problem. make sure you are finalizing the CD's on the computer so the changer can read them in the truck.
for my ipod i use a radio transmitter i bought off Ebay for like $10 with shipping. It also charges my Ipod and works pretty well. not to mention i can pull it out of the lighter and stow it when i hit a shady neighborhood. it uses batteries as well if you don't want to plug it in.

My 99 D2 didnt have the cd changer that was supposed to be factory installed, it was instead replaced by an ol' skool car phone module, the microphone is still above my seat in the window opening. So I had an alpine 6 disc CD changer installed under my driver seat that runs direct to the OEM radio, only thing that was a special item to make it work was a MBUS converter to allow the alpine changer to read land rover language.
and now i read all disc formats.

I use the recordable Memorex CD-R disks and they have always worked. Im assuming the 99DII and the 00DII have the exact same cd player set-up. I always used Jukebox until I got my new computer, and I have only tried one burn with it and it didnt work. I wish I had jukebox onit because it was soooo easy and the CD's always worked. Like mentioned above, make sure you are making them readable for CD's, I think thats where I went wrong on my laptop.

I used this interface http://www.gromaudio.com/ipod.html and it has been working fairly good ever since. I noticed on the page that they didn't have a land rover link so you may have to call and let them tell you which one worked. It was easy to install, there is a write up on here with pictures https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ipod+interface. I had to order the head unit "keys" to remove the unit but they were like 2 bucks on ebay and I have heard that you can get them from car audio stores as well. I hope this helps!
