Does anyone have a step by step install for putting in The cdl linkage into a 2001 disco? I have checked the t case and everything is there except the linkage and shifter.

Which linkage are you installing, a D1 mechanical shifter or an 04 cable shifter?

You can get some help from this video of the 04 install. That will get you where you want to be and the rest is pretty straight forward.

I recently did this install as well, the only tricky part is bending the high low linkage to get the right angle on it. Be patient and keep in mind, you will have to take it apart and put it back together a few times to get it perfect.

When you get the D1 linkage, clean it down and re grease it. When you open up your console and drill out the rivets holding down the plate, replace them with some bigger screws so you can open and close it without the hassle of rivets in the future.

The trick is to buy the Hi/Lo housing from a D1 from Will Tillery. then just unbolt yours from the transmission (6 bolts) and rebolt the D1 with the bent selector. I did this on my 2003 over the winter. It took me 3 days on and off. Plenty of big things to unbolt including for me the Y pipe front prop. All to install the CDL ready front output.

Silver, it really is a pretty straightforward process. The D1 linkage works like a champ. Most things you'll see say to bend the hi/lo linkage to get it to line up. There's nothing wrong with that but I had awesome success using a rod end bearing, bolt, and some washers/nuts. I can't take credit for the idea, but I'll see if I can find the link when I get back to my computer.
