Don't forget an 03/04 SLABS unit dated 03 or newer. Then you'll have a complete factory 04 setup. Without the newer SLABS you'll get temp 3 amigos if you leave CDL engaged and start up the D2 with it engaged. You can install a wired in switch, but why hack a wiring harness vs doing it right and simply replace/upgrade to the better firmware for TC/ABS/HDC and be 100% compatible with CDL.
I just stuck the SLABS unit out of my 03 parts truck into my 99 so I can delete the SLS, but I'm not 100% sure it supports CDL as it's not dated 03 or higher. If not I'll buy one when the time comes for an 04 CDL linkage.

Yes, I deal with the Amigos every time I don't disengage the CDL, pain is the a$$. I was going to do the wire tap/switch, but haven't gotten around to it. I didn't know there was a bolt in fix for this issue. Can you give a part # for the SLABS unit (where to buy)? And where is it located on the rig?

You can replace just the "nose" section of the TC and get CDL. Might be easier than replacing the full TC, even if you buy a full TC to get the nipple. I've never done it (I have a '99) but I think there are at least a few threads on the topic in this and other Rover forums.

The SLABS unit is mounted behind the glove box next the the BCU and ACE ECU. You'll want a SLABS unit with a date code of 03 or newer. Model # is SRD500070. Then it's 100% PNP and CDL compatible.
You can find them on Ebay all the time, just verify the date code as being 03 or newer. I was lucky and grabbed one dated 06 out of a junk yard D2 for 20.00 and it's SRD500070.

Just to be comprehensive, if you've done the CDL linkage retrofit (either using 04 components, or D1 components) the following SLABS ECU model numbers will work to correct CDL behavior at start up:
Pre-2003 models will all likely have the following SLABS ECU model number:
The SRD500070 has programming that was improved over the other models for better TC performance, especially when the CDL is locked.
Also, if you purchase a SLABS ECU from a vehicle that has the opposite SLS configuration than you did, then you will need to re-configure the feature with a Hawkeye, or another similar programmer.

Hello folks,
Great advice and info here, but I have a question.
First off, I'm working on my 2001 Discovery ll, which has the CDL attachment/shaft on transfer case, but no linkage.
Believe I read somewhere, in another topic about CDL- that I can not find again, that you only engage CDL while in low range. Is this correct? I've study some pictures of the stickers on the center console, on models that have CDL from the factory, and they seem to indicate that you can only use CDL up to 40 mph.
The reason I ask, if CDL can only be used in low range...I may fabricate some sort of linkage that will work in conjunction with the high/low linkage mounted on transfer case, where it will only move the fabricated CDL linkage, while being moved into low range from drivers compartment.
Now, if CDL can be used in high range...then I will fabricate a whole separate cable/linkage system for activation from the drivers compartment...during high or low range.
And, it looks as though I have to find one of these 03/04 SLABS units...for smoother operation.
