I may be off base on this, but I'm pretty sure that even with a '04 shifter you'll still have to cut the hole in the cover. You still need to make room for the lateral shifting.

Okay i thank everyone for the inputs i understand that either way i go the 04 is way more expensive but is all cable operated vs the mechanical rod set up of the D 1. Also either way i will be doing a little trimming for the side to side movement. I have placed the order for the 04 setup and will hopefully get that installed this weekend!!!

Also going with a cable type shifter will eliminate all the vibration that is associated with using the D1 shifter

Sweet i cant friggin wait. I knew it was a better way to go ! just harder to find and ouch on the billfold.

there was a guy on ebay from POLAND that was selling them for $269.00 when i bought mine, I think they were 299.00 last i looked

same shifter & cable different seller he must be buying them from the same guy i did and reselling them.

I got mine for less than half that!!! Comes with all clips, nuts, bolts and a new shift boot and handle.
