So I went to lock the CDL the other day, and found it was stuck. After a little wrestling with it later than evening, I was able to run it through all 4 positions in the gate, locked and unlocked, low and high. It was working flawlessly for about half an hour. As I pulled into the driveway for the last time, I went to move it from locked/hi to unlocked/hi, and it won't unlock. I can move it through the gate to the right hand, unlocked position, but the indicator light is still on and it won't unlock. The lever moves through all 4 positions in the gate, but the only changes happening are from hi to lo, CDL still locked. Any suggestions?

Dont worry about it, it is unlocked just the light is stuck, mine does it too. It will shut off after you drive it.

First, what were you doing driving around in a locked position???????????????????????????????????
You may have bound up the t/case, try backing up the truck a good distance then go thru the shift pattern.
If you have been forcing it too much, you may have also bent the linkage.

I was careful not to bend the linkage, and it was working fine for half an hour, in and out of all four positions. I only drove it about 1/4 mile in each position at a time before moving it to another, never faster than about 25 mph through my neighborhood. I was just trying to loosen it up and make sure everything was working properly.

I pulled it into my driveway for the last time and tried to move it from locked-hi to unlocked-hi. The lever clearly moved through the gate, but the diff didn't unlock. I tried backing up and moving forward a few times, tried moving the lever through the gate, etc. Nothing. Figuring this would eventually just work itself unlocked, I left it. Since, I have driven it to and from work a few times (about 30 miles total, including some highway), with no change in status. So I would say the t-case has definitely "bound."

Any suggestions?

Go to a empty parking lot, turn the steering wheel to lock and try driving in a tight circle, do the front wheels "skip"? Or does it turn normal?
If the t-case is still locked you will turn about as tight as the Queen Mary. If it turns a nice tight circle then the light is stuck and dont worry about it, just another light to read by at night.
Sometimes turning in a tightcircles, two one direction and two in the otherwill turn the light off.

Its not the speed you go, it the traction on the surface you're on. Going around a corner on asphalt is not good when locked.

Yep, CDL is definitely locked up. Next logical question: what is the best way to get the t-case to release, once bound?

Mike- See that you're quasi-local. Can you suggest anyone? I called Arapahoe Imports up here in Boulder (who claims to be a Rover specialist) and he seemed absolutely clueless.

Please tell me that you haven't been driving with it locked for a month.....

Read the link all the way through. YOu do not want to bend your linkage, and there are some steps that could do it. Choose the least invasive procedure and give it a shot....
