center locking diff
I have a 1999 disco 2 with 209k miles that just bought I am so glad I found this place as I am a do it yourselfer I have been sorting through all these threads and ordering parts all week I stumbled upon one that said there was a kit available to use the center locking diff and was wondering can I just get the shifter and linkage from a 2004 and bolt it in and go and if so is there a land-rover grave yard out there were i can buy pre-owned and save some money. There are a bunch of other parts like an arm rest I would like to get pre-owned if there is
D1 shifter is a direct mechanical linkage. I installed one in my '99 and have moved it over to my '03 along with the locking transfer case.
2004 D2 shifter uses cables that apparently have a tendency to seize up if you don't use them. Not sure why people say that the D2 version is better.

So the disco 1 is a direct link I'm assuming rods and the 2004 disco 2 is a cable setup but other than that the same shifter and both will direct bolt into my 1999 disco so im sure the cable setup on the 2004 is a slightly easier install other than that the linkage of the old shifter may be more reliable over long term in sandy dusty conditions.
