center locking diff
you have a few choises: a used D1 shifter $50-$75, an 04 shifter (good luck) or an Ashcroft $450.00 or so. Great River Basin has a cable operated one also. Or you can drill a hole threw the top of your console and lock and unlock it using a socket extension and swivel socket.
Oh and there are air and electricly actuated shifter too.
If you do a search you will come up with posts concerning all the types

There are a few companies that sell them. Lucky8 sells it for $518, RoversNorth probably has the best price on it at $499. Rovers North - The Source for Classic Land Rover Parts - CENTER DIFF LOCKING KIT DISCOVERY II

Theirs looks like a solid option apart from the enormous handle sticking out of the transmission tunnel cover. I prefer the stock look with the Ashcroft kit.
if you like the ashcroft look, I did.
Go on ebay there is a guy in Poland (yes; poland) who makes his own.
That is were I got mine, I think I paid about $225-250 or so and another $60 for shipping.
Last I saw he was up to about $300.00 and had sold a few.
Its a nice shifter fit in with no problems it came with a new cable and all the hardware. I have pics, but dont reall know how to post.

People say it's one of the single most important off road upgrades. Not only because it helps you initially, but if you decide to get front and rear lockers in the future it aids in traction with that as well.
Why would Land Rover remove such a feature which make it compelling to sell the Land Rover as a capable vehicle in the first place?
And, even have the diff that does CDL and yet not let you use it?
There must be a reason..
Is the reason that Hill Decent will not work properly with the CDL engaged?
I am sure they thought about this very carefully and had arguments about it at Rover in England.
