Default changing battery

Im going to change the battery in our 2001 disco soon, just read a post that says you will loose your raido. and I have no idea what the code is or how to find it without going to the dealer. If this is true I was thinking of using a spare battery and using jumper leads to parallel the spare battery to the terminals so it never looses power. Some one let me know if this is wise or a silly idea

It's worth a try. I've even seen a special 9 volt battery thing you could plug into the cigarette lighter. Only downfall is that on our rigs, you'd have to leave the key on for the lighter circuit to be completed.

Your idea should work just fine, assuming the spare battery if fully charged. When I had to replace my battery last winter, I borrowed the jump pack from where I work, to keep 12 volts on the battery cables while I pulled and replaced the battery. I have my radio code on my home computer, but I didn't want to drive home from work without tunes.

Just be very gentle moving the cables, because you don't want the clamps from the parallel battery to come off the terminals during the process.

If you do manage to lose your radio, all you should have to do is fax the dealer a copy of your title, and drivers license, to verify ownership.

Use the spare battery and jumper cables.
On my 2001, I had the batter off for a time and did not lose my code..
I was surprised.

To be safe - use another battery and jumper cables.

You don't need to be key on.

Never hurts to be safe. 90% of the time I never had a problem changing batteries but there's always that 10% (maybe it was karma or something)

Leave it running, turn everything off, unhook the old battery, install new battery, done.
Thats how I do it.
The alternator will keep everything going, no loss in radio, clock, etc.

The only downfall with that is that if the new battery is a little undercharged the instant load from hooking the cables back up might fry the alternator.

Yeah, on my 03 I was amazed that all of my presets were still there.... it's a freelander style cd player, so no code anyway, but I was still impressed.
