Default Changing battery in key.

How in the world do you open the key to replace the battery? I push and pulled until my fingers hurt trying to get it open [>:]. Does the key pull out? 2001 Disco II SE.

Thanks!

No, I do not believe the key comes out of the handle. There is a little drawer thing that slides out. Call a local Rover dealer, they should be able to walk you through it. Pretty sure it's covered in the owner's manual.

Good luck

Well...I was able to replace the battery in the key ...a prior post helped...but that did not fix the problem [&:]...when I press the the unlock button on the key, nothing happens...it does not lock or unlock or sound the alarm. I have noticed though that when I lock the door from the outside with the key, a little red light starts blinking on the dash (I assume this is to make you aware an alarm is armed).

Any suggestions...maybe it is a blown fuse?

You have the classic bad door lock actuator.
All the other doors are controlled by the central door lock, and the drivers door is the central lock, lock/unlock the drivers door and all the others do the same.
The motor in the actuator went bad, when you turn it with the key you are over riding the electric motor.
You have several options at this point, but it all depends on your ability.

What are my options?

This is why I bought the extended warranty...but I wonder if it covers it...I never thought to ask the insurance rep about a "motor" in the door lock actuator!

It does say the "Power Window Motor" is covered in my policy...maybe the "Door Lock Motor" is included as well, but it does not list it specifically...it also mentions basic and hi-tech electric coverage...would it be under one of those?

Thanks for your help!

If your actuators are shut, even with the dash mounted lock/unlock switch they won't budge. If they do work with the inside switch, then its not the actuators and most likely the key. Thing is that APPARENTLY, if the battery dies or you take too long to install the new battery whendoing so, the key looses its programming. But this last comment is just hearsay and shouldn't be taken for granted.

The dash mounted lock/unlock switch works...maybe it is just the key? Can I reprogram? When I press the buttons on the key, the little red light does turn on...

If I cannot reprogram the key...does anyone know where to buy a new key? I'm sure it is cheaper to buy online than from the rover dealer...

By the way...after reading the fine print...my extended warranty does cover the power door lock actuators...now I need to see if it covers keys!
