It seems that I need to replace the coil pack. How much of a pain in the *** is this?

I am comfortable working on the truck, but I am a medical student, and I'm not exactly overwhelmed by free time to do stuff like this.

 

You've got to remove the intake manifold to be able to replace the coil. It's not a 30 minute job, that's for sure. You can download the rave cd and look at intake manifold removal to get an idea of what's involved. The dealer is going to run you somewhere in $1300 range.

 

Yeah that's what I figured. I've replaced plugs/wires myself before, and that coil was tough to get to.

I've got a quote for like $900 from a local repair guy. I feel okay about letting him do it, since I know what is involved. I'd do it myself if I had time. I guess I'll just go this route.

I'm also going to be replacing the plugs and wires, and want to get something good for the new ones. Any suggestions on what I should use?

 

I think it's unanimous that magnecores are the way to go for wires, for plugs either LR original or Bosh Plat+4. You'll get mixed opinions on the plugs.

 

Just curious, why are you needing to replace the coils?

 

I have honestly no idea why they want to replace the coils. I got error codes p304 and p301 I think. And then they said I was misfiring on six cylinders. I was a little confused about that.

 

Do not throw a coil pack on for 2 misfire codes.
Sen me your tele number and lets talk about what you need to do.

 

Hold on... p301 and p306 were the misfiring, and they are controlled by the same coil.

If you do end up needing new coils you can do the coils yourself too. It requires the removal of the upper IM but that is easy. But definitely start with 8mm Magnecors from apex performance and some good champion plugs or bosch platinum.
