Who knows. If you've got a misfire condition.... something is going on.

Default Update

Ok so I took it to the a mom and pop shop down the street and they looked it over and indicated there is no spark on 4 and 7 and thought it might be a bad coil.

According to the cylnder schematic and spark plug wire schematic if your sitting in the drivers seat looking at the engine (4/7) should coordinate with the coil pack on the left, if you in front of the car looking back it would make it the right coil pack that I changed.

I do not think I am the unlucky guy that replaced a bad coil pack for a brand new bad one so either

The one that I changed out was the wrong one or there is another issue possibly upstream.

Again any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks
Rich

Default No Spark

Any suggestions on what would cause no spark at the plugs?
All spark plugs have been changed
Brand new spark plug wires
New coil pack

Suggestions?
Best Regards
Rich

Disco Mike thanks for the call that was very nice of you!

You asked me to check for spark on 4 and 7.

I checked for spark with the code on (no spark on either)

I checked for spark with the codes reset (no spark on either)

Suggestions recap

Had a misfire condition changed out (4 and 7 coil)
Still misfiring and changed out (spark plug wires)
Still misfireing and changed out (spark plugs)
Tested and no spark on 4 and 7 still

?

Thanks
Rich

Riches.
According to the following text I copied from another thread, cylinders 4 & 7 share the same coil unit. Maybe it will help you.
Franky

The engines used in our LR Discoveries use what is called "Wasted Spark" ignition systems in which pairs of spark plugs share oposites sides of the high voltage winding on the coil pack.

Others can describe it much better than I so just Google "Wasted Spark".

Anyway, the reason for this post is one I had a heck of time findind a ligitimate diagram that does not refrence the arbirtrary "left" and "Right" side of the engine and its cylinder numbers so below is somthing that is a bit more concrete. Hopefully this helps save the next guy 10 minutes.

View from Top down

Firewall
8 O O 7
6 O O 5
4 O O 3
2 O O 1
Radiator

While troubleshooting an ignition issue it also became aparent to me that it would be nice to know what "pairs" of cylinders are connected together either side of each ignition coil. see below.

Waste Spark Firing Pairs:

1 - 6
2 - 3
3 - 2
4 - 7
5 - 8
6 - 1
7 - 4
8 - 5

So if i was to pull the plug wire on cylinder 6 cylinder 1 should also stop firing as there is now no longer complete circuit on the high voltage side of the coil. You might even see a missfire code on both pairs of cylinders for this very reason.
