Default Check oil light

Yes I know not a good judge using that but this is what is happing. When engine warms up and your at idle the light comes on. Rev the engine a bit goes away. When light is on I get more ticking (I do have a liner tick). Now when the light is coming in the exhaust starts smoking and it does smell like an engine that is running rough with some oil burning.

i do have a new oil pump and gaskets coming next week and will be taking the pan off and cleaning it all up.

there is no change in the coolant level in the reservoir btw

liner tick ? What is your coolant temp ??
I had it to when I got my disco but it had the oem stat Once I kept temps below 200 it went away

i would physically check oil pressure to confirm if it’s pressure issue or sensor or wire.

But never a bad thing to change out oil pump etc

Again using the temp gauge I. Dash holds right in middle. No fluctuations at unlike my other one.
and yes liner tick once engine warms up acceleration and deceleration that tick goes away.

the exhaust part is confusing too

you must get a ultraguage type device. You don’t know if the thermostat or cooling system is working optimal.
You need to get those engine temps down

Do you have a copy of the RAVE manual? These engines have their oil pumps sandwiched in the front timing cover. You'll be dropping the pan anyway, and it's a good idea to replace the o-ring on the oil pump pickup tube while you're in there, but this job is a lot more involved that a simple oil pump replacement on some other engines where you drop the pan, swap the pump, and button it back up.

I’ve got the wireless UltraGauge Blue. Works great on my iPad and iPhone.

I went with the wired one and mounted it between the gauge cluster and the driver's door - it fits perfectly on top of that little vent. Great piece of mind to be able to see your exact temps. I also like to use my phone for navigation on longer trips, and this avoids me having to dedicate the screen to monitoring temps. The wired UltraGauge is always on and it'll beep if I'm not paying attention and the temp gets too high. It also reads codes and can clear the Check Engine light.

Here's what I ordered:
1 x UltraGauge EM Plus v1.2 (UltraGauge_EM_Plus v1.2_15)
Mounting options Horizontal Surface Mount & Bracket
