Default Chirping noise when accelerating

Hi, I am getting a chirping / squealing noise when accelerating. Happens at slow speeds and even louder at high speeds. I've read all about the front driveshaft and replaced that last week but it did not improve at all. Any other idea before I take it to the mechanic?

It it a metallic squeal sound or a belt squeal sound? Could be your belt, could be a wheel bearing, could be a differential...

Not sure how to describe the sounds better. I guess it might kind of sound like a belt squeal, but the belt looks good.

Thanks for your reply.

Metal on metal is going to sound very sharp compared to belt squeal. It's difficult to sense what condition the belt is when it's on the car, but as it dries out and stiffens it can start to squeal when you put the engine under load. It's only about $15, so I would replace it first and see what happens.

So I have the same model same year with 88,000 miles that I just purchased which is having what seems to be the same issue. Did you find out what it was and the repair required? Wonder if this is a common issue with this vehicle at this amount of miles? Thanks and definitely would appreciate any input

You need to get under there and find out where exactly the noise is coming from. I found multiple issues for mine. Front and rear drive shafts needed to be lubricated and the idler pulleys needed to be replaced.

Thanks for the response cvhyatt. Like I mentioned previously I had just purchased my Disco and didn’t know that drive shaft lube is a regular maintenance on it, or the current condition of the drive shafts for that matter. At least I have a direction to go now. Sounds like possibly an easy remedy!

One thing to note about the front drive shaft - the OEM has sealed bearings which means it can’t be lubed. You either need to rebuild it with grease fittings or buy a new one. If this is the source of your issue and you don’t take care of it soon, it can take out your transmission when it fails.

Also grab yourself a copy of this book off Amazon. A lot of the same info is in this forum but I found this book condenses a lot of it into a simple to read and understand book. Good luck! How to Live With Your Land Rover...

JW, Mine ended it up being a head gasket about to blow. And then it did and I got rid of the rover. I get that these are high maintenance vehicles by my experience was ridiculous. The head gasket repair was $3500 at the shop and that's just until they get inside and find other things wrong. I hope yours isn't the same problem. Best wishes! p.s. I am driving a Tacoma now.
