There is a replacement bulb - Tiny little thing... that backlights the clock.
Scratch that earlier thought... You can use a pair of credit cards to remove the clock...
Here's a video...
You can get the replacement bulb from Atlantic British...

Wow.. that's it?! Amazing.. I should be happy that it's a simple fix but I had it worked up in my mind that it would be so much harder. thanks.

not easy to get the clock out.
I did it a few months ago.
Credit cards may get it out.
I would use cards you don't care about.
The bulb is a little dash snap in bulb. Orsam
2.5W or so.

Credit cards can be a little too thick. Use one of the plastic or plastic coated customer loyalty type cards from your grocery store that are a little thinner than credit cards and smooth, but are thicker and more substantial than a playing card or business card You can buy just the bulb as noted above, or you can buy the bulb in the plastic twist-mount piece that it is set in from AB for a little more $. I also took the ashtray/coin box out to get a little better view and see what is going on on the bottom of the clock when trying push the plastic lock mechanism flat to pull the clock out.
