Default Clock Backlighting??

HI I have a 2000 Disco II and the digital clock drives me insane. Is it suppose to have a backlighting so you can actually see it at night? If so, mine doesn't. Can someone tell me how to fix it?

Thanks
Mendy

Hi
My 98 disco (and my 96 before that) had the same problem. There is a tiny little light bulb that illuminates the clock at night. But i'm not sure whether a local parts store would have it . Its really tiny. Also the clock module is a bit tricky getting out of the dash. Its the kind of deal that usually gets broken while removing it. I never did replace mine. There were always lots of more pressing issues to deal with. God love these rover anyway!
Good luck

Once you get it out you can take the bulb to AutoZone and get a new bulb. It is like $2 for a two pack.

Glad to hear the bulb can be found at any parts store. Can someone describe to Mendy the procedure for removing the clock module? My experience with that stuff is the tabs that hold the module inplace are easily busted. I can't recall how I got mine out but when I looked at it the other day again I wasn't sure where the release is

I do not know if the dash is the same, however here is how I removed and replaced my clock without breaking anything on my 98 Disco.
1. remove the switch panel underneath the clock. This just pulls straight out towards the inside of the truck. You can nudge it by placing your fingers behine it and pulling forward.
2. remove ashtray.
3. remove the cup holder brackets which held the switch panel, ashtray and cup holders. Need a long phillips head screw drive. If I remember there are 6 screws.
4. Once this is removed you need to reach slightly underneath the clock. There is a small piece of metal that is spring loaded. Push the piece of metal up and at the same time push the clock in torwards the cabin area. The clock will only go so far as it is connected in the back for power.

The little light is on the back and has about a 1/2 turn twist to remove it.

I hope this info is helpful.

Just replaced the bulb in my 01. Remove the coin tray. Use 2 credit cards that you don't need. Slide in the top and bottom of the clock/door lock section. The cards need to go long ways left to right to catch all four corners. It will take some effort but the unit will slide out when you pull the cards slowly out toward you. Unplug and the bulb is a twist out. Cost from $2 to $3 to replace. Not sure if you have got it fixed by not. Fell free to call me. 859-802-8033. The Rave manual helped a lot.
