Default Code PO705...fixed.

I'm making a note of the fix I encountered on my 03, getting PO705, after engine installation (which really had no bearing on issue).

After the engine had been removed, a few days later I had to move the rover out of the bay...so I put the key in the ignition, turned it to the second position, pushed brake pedal and moved shifter into neutral. Then pushed rover out of the garage and move to other bay, where, after putting it in park...the key would not turn off...it was stuck in first position. Didn't think to much about it at the time, since I'd just pushed the battery cable on by hand...so, l just removed cable and forgot about it until I put the engine back in.

Three months time passes, as I look for new engine.

So, new engine runs great and all...but check engine light was on. I took it for a ride anyway...but it was in limp mode. All I had was third and reverse. Checked codes and PO705 came up (plus, both green M & S flashing and check engine light on). Went through all of the usual suspects, WXYZ switch changed and checked old and new switch with ohm meter (both good), adjusted linkage/cable, up-graded battery connections, load tested battery (good), checked alternator output (good), checked every fuse (all good).

Well, after all of that...I assumed the console was going to have to come out...to look for broken wire or other type of issue. So, l removed the window switch panel first and lowandbehold...right there in plan sight...was a wire chewed in half. And out of the numerous wires available for the mouses delights...the blue/purple wire that comes from the trans WXYZ switch...was his choice.

So, for anyone battling this code without normal repairs working...and if the vehicle has been sitting for awhile...check for harness damage.

Repaired wire, cleared code and all is well.

Brian.
