Default Code Scanner Recommendations

Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a code scanner/ clearer for my Disco. I am an iPhone (iOS) user and would love to get a bluetooth one that syncs up well with it to get real time stats while driving but I am also open to non-bluetooth (conventional) suggestions as well. Thanks in advance for any and all recommendations!

Default Elm 327

The elm 327 unit displays more info than you could ever ask for and resets codes. Plus it is wireless and cheap, about $10.

The downside is reliability. I have had one for years before it failed, others were not so lucky. I suppose what do you expect for $10?

Yeah, that's one I was looking at for sure. What software/app do you use for iOS?

I can't seem to get my elm 327 to communicate with the ECU. I got it to connect once or twice, but that was a pain in the *** and it didn't read alot of the guages.

The issue may be that I don't have a blue tooth laptop computer to run the set-up disc.. could that be why?? Is it required that I run the set-up disc on a laptop??

Default does it work on other vehicles?

It is probably a defective unit. Again, not very high quality but cost effective when they work.

I believe Torque with the ELM327 is only designed for Android machines. The OP mentioned he has an iPhone. He is going to need a specific iPhone app such as DashCommand.

ELM327 w/ Bluetooth & an Android (or other supported) phone with Torque app. Best $15 purchase I ever made (already had the phone).

Used it on at least a dozen vehicles, has never let me down. I've noticed that the refresh rate on our Rovers is a lot slower than other vehicles I've used it with. I think it's like 3 PID's / sec, so oxygen sensor readings and such that require a lot of sensitivity can be frustrating.
