I just got my ELM327 Bluetooth connected up to an old ipod touch I had. I was using the ELM327 dongle to read and clear codes with my laptop but I wanted something a little more portable. I had an ipod touch 4g that my wife found laying in a parking lot that I had updated to ios 6.1.6. I jailbroke it, then installed roqby which is an app that opens up the Bluetooth in the device to allow all sorts of things to connect to it, not just the ones that are willing to pay Apple to do so. That app also has an OBD2 add on that allows communication with the ELM dongle. I then went to the standard app store and downloaded OBD Car Doctor which is free and EngineLink which cost $6. To get the dongle to communicate with the apps, you need to enter the address provided by the roqby OBD add on as the adapter IP address. This setup works great, and in my case cost about $24 ($6 for roqby, $6 for enginelink and $12 for the dongle).
