Coilover Setups, Lets see them!
I'm starting to dig around and plan a coilover set up for my 2000 D2. I know there is a gentleman up here in Fresno with a nice setup but wondering what others have done. Pictures and info on possible issues you came across while fabricating would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
My tires and ham radio in the car are worth more than most D2's! If that theory is how I went about upgrading my car I would have been **** out of luck a long long time ago! But I get what your saying, but I don't plan on selling this car and it has a different kind of value to me. Fabricating things and troubleshooting is all part of what makes my wheeling hobby fun for me.
You are correct, I didn't plan on putting a street coiler set, but a long travel 3 or 4 point setup. When you see legit flex and stability climbing over rocks out on the trail and Im teetering over every object I get a little jealous. I was also thinking about trying to get a D1 suspension set up on my D2 but wondered if I fabricate everything myself if the coilovers would gain me function and a little something you don't see everyday.
You won't gain any functionality over a retained coil spring and long shock unless you are talking about a dedicated rock crawler or pre-runner. In both cases you will be completely re-engineering the entire chassis and might as well have started with a from scratch buggy.

If you haven't seen an D2 articulate well with a basic setup then you haven't looked very hard.
And I'm not sure how a retained coil would prevent up travel... it will prevent down travel if the coil is too stiff and retained on both ends but the way around that is one end retention and cone on the other, both of which are bolt on applications.

I mean with a long travel set up not a plus 2. Dislocation cones I have tried and didn't really work well, just didn't provide enough force to prevent slipping and still didn't get me any forward movement like I wanted.
