Default Colorado Residents.. Ideas Please

I live in Oklahoma and the "Little Woman" is all over me for us to get out of town and go on a Road Trip..

We live in Oklahoma City, and were thinking that Colorado would be a good destination. Looking for a nice scenic destination that isnt tremendously crowded, and that isnt a particularly difficult 4x4 track to get to as my DI is stock. We are taking the dog. Water would be nice, and it should be a scenic destination to spend a day and night soaking in the scenery.

How far are you looking to drive?
What time of year are you going?

Come to the San Juan Mtms in SW Colorado. The Ouray/Silverton/Telluride/Lake City area. Come in July when the alpine wildflowers are at their peak. Lots of extremely scenic easy/moderate 4w drive trails which used to be old mining roads. Some go as high as 13,000 feet. Lots of great hiking trails as well plus camping sites. Come during the week rather than weekends and the crowds are a lot less. Interesting old ghost mining town/mine sites as well. There are good guide books. You would not be disappointed. Try the old train ride between Silverton and Durango as well. Lots of fun.

There are tons of places in Colorado that fit your description. Talk to Mike and get yourself a guide book.

Colorado Springs has alot to offer, However, at this time of year this is my suggestion (be sure to bring a leash for the dog) take her to Pikes Peak the weekend of July 18-19, it has a great view -O- and forget to tell her you have tickets for Pikes Peak Hillclimb Race on the 19th. E N J O Y!!!!!!

This is a fantastic event, it can get boring between cars
