Default Is a complete lockset necessary...?

My LR: 2000 Discovery II

The skinny:
Tried to unlock vehicle (in superlock mode) one day but key would spin freely but not unlock vehicle. Key fob will not unlock vehicle (hasn't worked in months). Had Disco towed to LR dealership for assessment. Service technician forced entry through passenger side door (claiming to have caused no damage) said that I would need a new door latch ($$$) AND a complete lockset ($$$$ - because of superlock) in order for car to unlock, start, and run.

Question #1:
Would simply replacing the driver side door latch then use key to unlock door like normal disable superlock mode?

Question #2: Is there not a way for an LR certified technician to disable superlock? Perhaps via computer using the VIN?

Question #3: Do I REALLY need to get a new complete lockset?

What they told you is rubbish.

All you need:

1) the octagon transfer keyway from the key in the door to the mechansm may have fallen out or stripped.

2) The mechanism in the drivers door is kaput and gone.

Replace the mech in the door and you are good to go.

You should always have a working key fob.

You should never use superlock - unless you go into bad bad places
or are storing the Rover.

I never use superlock.

I don't want trouble later.

Once I used superlock on a BMW I had.
It confused the parking lot attendant and he broke my key nearly off.
Twisted the hell out of it.

Bloody shame.

You really need to get your key fobs working.
Replace the batteries in the key fobs for starters

Thank you. This makes so much more sense. So how does this sequence sound:

1. replace part behind driver side door panel
2. unlock door with key, hence
3. unlock vehicle therefore disarming superlock

I won't be doing this work myself, but will have another local LR specialist do the simpler replacement and say to hell with the dealer.

Open to more thoughts and clarity.
