That's why I came here, to gain some knowledge and be able to back up my haggling with logic. I would have walked away already if not for a good body and close to excellent interior minus the headliner.

I'll get it over to Ed's for the diagnostics so I can make an offer or keep looking.

That's the thing with Rover's the body almost always looks good unless there is accident damage.

I don't know where your located, but rust is a huge issue with these. Check underneath check the floors, the wheel wells, and the rear load space. In some areas that one could already have a questionable frame.

Too many variables there. I'd pass on it.

with those codes it is a 3000 dollar car max, common price with a head gasket repair looming under 2500.

ABS system repair at a shop is 500
p0300 and p0308 misfire, water jacket right next to cylinder 8, hg is a 2200 repair.

Listen when you fix it it is a great car.

Before I/we get on a tangent, I'm taking it to Ed's British 4x4 to be inspected, at that point, what they determine will be the final deciding factor.

I plan to do all the work myself, I enjoy wrenching, it's therapeutic and keeps me out of the pub.

I agree his asking price as it sits is way off. That's why I want to have it checked so I know what I am up against and will haggle, if I even do at the point, accordingly.

I have talked to this guy about a few cars, the Disco he's had for over a month, so he just may be ready to deal. If not, I have no issue, in fact sometimes it's even satisfying to walk away and tell a salesman "no". I sold for BMW/Mini of Nashville, I know the drill.

Thanks for all the feedback, it's a starting point to a journey.

smart move going to a pro to have it checked out.

i see your around nashville, you might want to look outside of that area you could save thousands. I would try craigslist in atlanta or chicago.

they are great vechs. good luck finding one

I stopped by the truck while out looking for other vehicles. Not sure how I missed this but the mileage is 148K, no clue how I got 80K in my head.

So his asking price is definitely off considering the possibilities of issues. I may still have it checked if I can do it for less than $200 and get armed to haggle a lot.

But this does bring up questions since the mileage is this high and it still runs without major noticeable issues, is it possible the usual engine quirks may have been addressed? I ask because you guys are more knowledgeable of these trucks.

But logic says if all the quirks I have learned about in my short time on the boards haven't been addressed at some point, by now at this mileage it would run like a complete dog, smoke like crazy, make a ton of noise etc. I'm sure you can see where I would think this.

But I reiterate, no purchase of any sort until it's been checked by a reputable shop.
