Default Console trim removal

My HSE with wood trim did not come with heated seat buttons. I recently bought the buttons and discovered (no pun intended) that I lacked holes for the buttons! If I remove the wood trim console, is there the equivalent of whatever comes in a Disco w/o the wood trim underneath? Is it worth it to find someone good with a dremel to create the holes in the existing wood trim (vs. finding another one for $300)? And any tips on how to remove the trim? The shifter seems to be the roadblock at the moment.

The panel should just pop out. Gently pry it out... You can get replacement panel without the wood for $12, or call ATB, they might have a wood one..

they have one in black too...

E-bay is a good source for stuff as well...

Thanks, but the problem is the console trim wood panel is all one piece from the buttons holes to the cigarette lighter. I have the black plastic switch panel with the buttons that you linked, but the wood panel doesn't have the holes, so I would have to either cut the wood part off where the black plastic switch panel would fit or remove the entire wood panel entirely. But then would I need the plastic rubber thing to fit on the console. Hm. Best bet would probably be to cut the wood panel where the plastic switch plate would go, but how to cut that thing while it's stuck to the console. Sheez.

my only suggestion for that is to take a piece of masking tape and draw out a line where you want to cut. Then take a dremel with a cut off wheel and go slow..... The tape should give you a good, clean cut....

I didn't realize the HSE trim went all the way through. eek.

Ah, that's where I figured this was going... I don't mind loosing the "wood" around the buttons, but the cutting part does worry me a bit. Hopefully the wood part pries off easily once I cut it. Anyway, I'll give it a whirl and post pictures. Thanks,

B

BTW, this is what the wood console trim part looks like:

before you cut, you may want to run by the dealer and ask them if they will help you out. They may even pull it for you if you give it to them to re-sell. Might be worth trying. I have a dealer that bends over backwards to make people happy. Might give it a shot....

Did you ever get this figured out? I have the same problem and I am trying to decide what to do. Anyone else do this?
