I'm getting ready to flush the coolant and have searched back through the posts for the procedure.I have 2 gallons of Dexcool and some Purple Ice. Here's what I plan to do:

1. Drain from bottom hose
2. Fill it back up

What am I missing? Some posts said to use 50% Dexcool and 50% Distilled water. Some mentioned filling up with distilled water and radiator flush, draining, fill with water only run 15 mins and drain again. Help please.

To drain- disconnect hose from bottom of thermostat and drain.

Makesure you read your coolant container, depending on which you bought some come pre-diluted. In that case you can not and should not add distilled water. If it is concentrate then you will need to make a 50/50 mix.

To ensure you get a full flush repeat a couple times if you dont mind spending extra on lost coolant.

If you fill with straight water to get a good flush then make sure it is clear after your last drain.***Make sure it IS distilled water a large portion will stay in the engine block. ALSO, if this is the method you choose make sure touse concentrated coolant when filling bak up to get the desired 50/50 mix.

To be confident on your mix, spend the extra few bucks and pre-mix the coolant and drain and fill a couple times(betweendrain outsyou need to run the engine to operating temp to ensure the coolant is being circulated)

 

The Purople Ice idea is a good idea for people with alloy engines in hot areas.

 

When you drain, you aren't draining all of it. Just keep that in mind when looking for a final mixture. No need to flush it out unless you have a lot of crud in it.
