Default coolant issue

i dont know if any one has had this issue before. every once in a whille when i start the car after its been off for 5 hours or more i start driving and the temp goes up a little past half right before it hits the red part and it stays for about a min then it goes back to normal it dosent do it every time. i have to add coolant every weeks or so but i never see any coolant on the floor or were it leeks from. has any one had this issue before or know what it could be?

Sounds like a headgasket problem. Take your Rover to a repair shop to have it looked at. Every time it "gets near the red" the engine is overheating. Overheating any engine is the fastest way to kill it. Get it checked out before it gets worse.

Cheers,

Pete

I would get a new thermostat and look for small leaks at the hose connections. In fact, I would just replace all the hoses too if it has not been done.

well this is the thing i bought the car about 2 years ago with 83k miles on it, now has 96k, all i have done to it is change the oil every 3k miles (i use 20-50 synthetic blend) and about 1kmile ago i changed the spark plugs thats it i wasnt sure how to change the wires. is there something specific i should have done to the car, i live in miami and there are a lot of shops that tend to rip people off specially since i am 21 they try to take advantage. so if any one could give me a list of things that i should get done

Have the cooling system pressure tested.

Unfourtunetly you will need to take it to a shop and have them do it.
LR's dont use a normal size radiator cap and a cooling system PSI tester that you can rent from a autoparts store will not fit.
