Default Coolant leak from back of engine

Thursday morning i drove to work and noticed that the heat was not as warm as it usually is but i chalked that up to the fact it was -18 F outside and continued to work. when i parked i noticed steam wafting out of the grill and between the top of the hood and windshield. i looked under and there was a small pool of coolant. I had it towed home, i fired it up today to try and track down where it was coming from. there is a stream flowing down the back side of the engine on the passenger side (pics attached) it drips with the engine off and flows when it is running. i only run it for a minute or two at a time in the hope that if i did not cook it on my trip to work it will avoid any further damage. from searching the forums my best guess is the valley pan gasket. looking to see if you all concur. I have checked the oil and the level is right were i left it and does not appear frothy, i am hoping its not the head gaskets even though i don't know if it has even been done i bought it with 98,000 miles on it and have some service records none of the ones i have say that they have been changed and i haven't done it.

Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Very likely head gaskets, or possibly a torn hose from the heater core (if you are incredibly lucky).

The HG blow on the ends of the head and leak coolant. The coolant doesn't mix with the oil so no froth. A pressure tester from Advance auto parts will work with our truck (other stores don't have the right coolant reservoir cap) and should help you diagnose it.

X2 on the head gasket. A leak at the #8 cylinder is very common.

But... But what if i don't want it to be a head gasket?

so any idea what it'll cost to have done. if i did not have a one month old i would consider doing it myself but there is no way i can find that kind of time. anything else that would be worth replacing while they are that deep in the engine.

There are literally one million threads on this forum and discoweb that will tell you more than you'd ever want to know about HG on these trucks.

It's not gonna be cheap, I'll tell you that.

I did it myself for
-$80 to machine the heads
-$200 for the victor reins kit shipped
-$100 misc tools I didn't have

Took me a week spending a few hours on it each day after work.

I have LR give me a quote and it was a few bucks short of $3000

I have a similar issue. Only difference is.. my leak is quite literally the back of the block on the drivers side. It doesn't leak cold.. only when hot.. and barely at that. I might have to add 1/2 cup of coolant every few days.. It runs down the bell housing and drips onto the front 02 sensor.. occasionally I will see steam and smell coolant. It's parked until I can fix it. Or it snow again, I'm fairly certain it's the valley gasket.

Zeroone, that sounds exactly like my head gasket leak. Those very minor HG leaks are a prime candidate for KSeal or Barrs Leaks tablets. I used the tablets and they stopped the leak, and it hasn't restarted in over a year now. Others have had similar luck with the KSeal.

However, last week the other side started leaking, and it's a more substantial leak. So I guess I've got my spring Rover project identified.

Thanks drmordo.. only a pressure test will tell the truth. I do believe the heads where done on this. Absolutely no signs of past overheating. If I'd comes down to it.. and I do replace the headgaskets, can I just pull the heads and install new gaskets or do I need to have the heads redone? I'm getting mixed opinions people I know.
