Default coolant leak...but from where?

Just noticed a recent coolant leak that I have been trying to track down. When I get into my engine with a flashlight....the regular places & hoses are not showing any leaks....but I have coolant leaking onto the transmission casing at the back of the engine...any tips of the source of the leak is much appreciated.

Start over and do a coolant pressure test to verify the location, then, most likely, plan on head gaskets.

yeah if it is on the trans housing it is most likely coming from the back of the motor i.e. either the intake gasket or head gasket also check the heater hose connections because they are in the back of the motor

thanks Mike & Tech,
I will borrow a pressure tester from local auto store this weekend and try to find the leak. I changed the intake gasket @8 months ago when I was replacing my leaking rocker gaskets...so I will hope its that or the heater hose. Here's hoping that the next required steps are only small ones.

Did you ever find out where the leak was coming from? I have an on and off leak around the same location. Coolant trickles down to where the crank case sensor is.

Yeah...the coolant was leaking from the Valley Gasket....changed the VC and all is now well. Still not sure why these gaskets are so unrealiable...this is the fourth one in 100k (should last longer than 20k per gasket job).

Its because of the engine coolant that is in your truck.

Dex-Cool is the main reason the DII cooling system is so prone to leaks and head gasket failures.

I agree 100%...I now only use PEAK Global™ LifeTime™ 50/50 Prediluted Antifreeze & Coolant after all the gaskets I've replaced!

I actual just replaced the Dex-Cool coolant in my truck with Peak Global Lifetime. I read in this forum that that is the way to go and to replace it every 2 years regardless of what the coolant manufacture says.

Thanks for the response. Guapo2004 gives me a little hope. I would rather change a VG than a HG. I'm having a hell of a time pin pointing the leak, or even getting a mirror back behind the intake.
