coolant leaks and freeze plugs
Does anyone know what page in the rave that shows where the freeze plugs are? Did a pressure test on my my coolant today to find a leak. Found one at the valve cover gasket seal but just a small one that new seal should fix. However I have a constant drip coming from the front corner of the driver's side of the engine. I can't see exactly where due to the housing for the belts. Looking from below I can't quite see it either. Are there freeze plugs on the front of the engine?

What are you talking about with the front cover? I had thought of the water pump as well.

Just watched the video at Atlantic British on the head gaskets and where he said the weak spots were... Yes, I am now thinking its probably the heads. May take a while for me to post again. My mechanic friend is coming over but if it is, it is going to take a few weeks to save up enough to cover getting all the parts to pull that off.
Whoa - Mike is right, could be several places. Front cover is the part of engine the water pump attaches to. There is a coolant gasket between water pump and the cover, and another between cover and block. And the water pump itself can leak and water be thrown back by the fan air flow.

All of those are easier than head gaskets. Rent/borrow a coolant perssure tester, pump it up to 15-16 PSI, and wait. The leak should be revealed. The cap vents at 18 PSI. HG parts are like $300, plus machine shop, plus beer for pal. WP gasket is $3. Front cover gasket is a $115 kit that also includes oil pump and front crank seal.
Think about it, you'ld be unhappy if after doing HG it still leaked from somewhere else. On the other hand, valve cover gaskets don't leak coolant.... a high on the engine leak can be head gaskets or valley pan gasket (if you are lucky).

if it is your front/timing chain cover and there is a good chance that it is, replace the water pump while your there. It's silly to do all that work and themn have to go back in late to replace the water pump. jmho
Thanks Savannah, I did pressure test it at about 16 and is how I found the leaks. I do think it is probably the valley on the side. Front, I just can't quite see it. My friend is bringing his mirror and his know how to look at it. He is a prof. mech./ not for LR's but its more than I know and I have the rave for him to look at with me. Thanks for the page links too.
Mike, it has 152,000. I have not even registered it yet. I have looked at your high mileage work and was going to get started on it but this came up first. It wasn't leaking when I bought it and it ran/runs very smoothly other than I knew it had an exhaust manifold leak.

ok, so my friend used his scope and found where the radiator leak was pulling up at. It appears it is coming out of the o-ring on the front. Got to pull off the one bracket in the way and pressurize system to confirm. While all the stuff is off going to replace the small coolant hoses that run across the engine and also pull throttle body and clean it as it was very dirty. Can you reuse that seal or will have to be replaced (throttle body seal?) Water pump looks in good shape.
