Coolant Question
Hi,
I am new to the rover family; I purchased a 02 Disco from a friend of mine, it had a small coolant leak. I brought it to a shop and they installed new head gaskets and a new radiator, and last month installed new freeze plugs. Everything was perfect until this week when I noticed the coolant levels are getting low again and I had to refill it twice.
My question is; could something else be causing this? There are no leaks, and I checked the dip stick and the oil is clean with no milky effect. I am considering going to a dealer and getting it looked at.
Any help will be truly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee.

why wouldn't you not be bringing it back to the shop that did the work and tell them there is a problem? and give them the chance to make it right.
the last place you want to bring your truck is a dealer; UNLESS you can afford $128 per hour.

If you take it back, realize, they know they can screw you on their ideas. Find out what they suggest, have them show you exactly what is wrong and how they tested for it and before giving them the go ahead tell us what they are tell you.
I am suggesting this, cause they sold you freeze plugs and I have only seen a couple of Discos in the last 10 plus years, that ever needed them replaced.

Thank you all for the reply's I have my doubts about the shop that performed the work, I was refered to them but as soon as I dropped off the truck they told me I needed head gaskets, which is a big job. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic or shop in the Chicagoland area?
Thanks,
Lee.

I am not sure how far you are willing to go, and I can not reccomend a shop yet, but the other day I noticed a shop in Antioch on rt59 that seemed to work on rovers... they had 2 discos and a range rover parked out in front... I haven't been there yet, but was gonna try and stop in there mid-late next week when I am back in that area
How about doing this your self by renting a coolant pressure tester from your local parts store. Pump the system to 16 to 18 pounds and watch the gauge, when it starts leaking, get out your flash light and check the entire engine top and bottom looking for a drip. Get back to us and let us know what you find.
Lee, I don't go by there too often, but stopped in there this morning to check them out. they seem like a legit place to service Rovers. I talked with the owner (Glenn Harris) for a few minutes, he is a LR master technician, I havent checked out their website theeuroshopinc.com 847-265-5440 and address is 39370N. Route 59, Lake Villa il 60046. He was also saying years ago they were called The Rover Shop and only worked on Rovers, but LR had a problem with that so they are now the euro shop and work on european vehicles, but from my observation, it seems like they mainly work on Rovers

Thank you Discovery Scott for the refrence; I went there two weeks ago and Glenn did a great job on my truck; turns out I was ripped off by this other guy, my head gaskets were never done. On a positive note the prior mechanic is a felon on probation for doing this kind of crap in Michigan. He ripped off a ton of people and got arrested on Tuesday and is going back to Michigan because they revoked his probation.
If anyone on this forum used or konw anyone who used "Top Wrench" in the naperville/plainfeild area google it and you will see a lot of inforamtion.
Thank you all for your help.
