Default Coolant Smell - '00 Discovery II 120k

First off, I read every thread on this...

I have done Mike's 60K...

Wires, plugs, rear air bags and the light bulb in the clock...

My Rover runs great, have a spot of oil on drive every day or so, but it always sticks of coolant (on the outside).

- 1 litre every couple of weeks

Is this "coolant pressure test" the best place to start?

What are the symtoms of a blow head gasket?

Comments, questions, help...

do a visual inspection first..common areas..throttle body..overflow tank..heads...radiator hoses and radiator

blown head gasket would give you a loss in power and coolant in the oil

I would clarify Nitetrain's observations somewhat. A blown head gasket could give you all sorts of problems as he described. A leaking head gasket could leak externally and have no effect on performance. My 2000 leaks from three spots, externally, front passenger side corner, rear passenger side corner and rear driver's side corner, runs great, tons of power, same as my 2001, no dash lights. Hopefully fixing the head gaskets this week. Phil

get a little bottle of coolant dye from napa and add to the expansion tank. It will become obvious where you are leaking from if it is an external leak. Don' jump to the head gasket conclusion there are many other ways for coolant to escape.
