Default Coolant tube

I was changing the air filter in my 2004 Discovery when my hand against a hard rubber or plastic tube coming from under the plastic cover above the radiator. The tube broke! I lost a couple of ounces of coolant, not much.

The hose was hard and rigid. It appears to run from the coolant expansion tank on the passenger side of the engine compartment, on top of the radiator and under the plastic cover and around to the driver side where it connects back in.

Is there a special spec for this tube? Any heat resistance or other requirement that would need a specific part number replacement? Or can I get such a tube from any of the auto parts chains. See picture....

Been there done that...
Go to Napa and get some 5/16 heater hose and replace that plastic piece of crap. Take it easy with the nipple on the radiator, many people break that of as well and then you need a new radiator.

Bundu, thanks. I take it the entire tube and fixtures are a special part number? Following on your advice, the 5/16 heater hose would insert into the existing rubber coupling on each end (coolant expansion tank on one end and radiator on then other) and then just re-clamp it?

Just take all the old crap off and replace it with the new heater hose. You can reuse the factory clamps or get new ones while you are at Napa. There will be a small piece of rubber hose on both ends, take one as a sample to Napa.

or just go to the dealer and buy the correct $25 hose and have it fit neatly, up to you. Any heater hose will do though.

Thanks...for both inputs. I'm about 35 miles to the dealer or I'd probably opt for the original part replacement. As it is, I've got the old couplers and hose off with no problems and I'll probably put in some new heater hose....just got to wait for the wife to get back to borrow her car!

While you are about it check the thin plastic hose that runs to your throttle body heater from the coolant reservoir. This one also breaks due to age.
