i tried to locate the temp sender. and i found 3 sensor looking thingys near the bottom of the radiator hose (please see attached picture). i unplugged, plugged in again, and even reversed the plug labelled "1" but nothing happened. i also pushed in the ones labelled 2 and 3 but to no avail. was i doing the right thing? hope i didnt mess up the sender.

regarding the heater:

as you can see in the picture, the previous owner cut off the supply going inside the vents most probably due to leaks. how easy is it to fix?

the bonnet is also not centered. meaning the left gap is about half a centi or more than the left. can this still be adjusted?

i also found a plug that doesnt seem to fit anywhere (that i can see), and an open threaded "hole" under the plenum. can you guys tell me what they are for and if its ok for them to be left as is?

My hood is the same way, I think it is just fine UK workmanship, I could be wrong though.
I do not know how hard it is to replace the heater core, I would agree that it probally leaks and that is why it is by-passed.
That threaded hole, dont worry about it.
That plug that goes no where, I dont know where it goes, just look for something within reach that it might go to.
Your temp sensor may have just died.
