Not sure if you have ever done head gaskets yourself, but pretty tight is not how I would describe the head bolts. You should not have been able to budge any head bolts unless you had a big *** breaker bar. If you were able to tighten them at all they were too loose and not installed correctly.
I've done several head gasket jobs in my 190k mile disco and the last time I used ARP studs. I will never use stretch bolts again.
It's almost impossible to get equal torque across all the stretch head bolts. The ARP studs are easy to install, reusable, and you will get equal torque. If you had this done at a shop, you should be able to get them done again for free. Ask about the studs or supply them yourself. Well worth the $100 extra.

The head bolts were tight - couldn't budge them at all. Seems like the AB head gasket was what failed. I live on Maui and have limited resources here so I did have a shop do the install last year and they are the only shop on Island that could and would do it. They also came recommended by my mainland shop and were the only listing on www.lrshops.com. I'll be going with ARP studs this time around. Not sure which gasket set to chose though. Any suggestions?
I finally got around to doing the head gaskets and after a few starts and stops got my heads back yesterday. went to put them on and now realize that the machine shop must have taken to much off because the bolt holes aren't lining up with the intake manifold. Anyone got any ideas? Am I SOL?
@motodave How did they take off ? The absolute max on a set that has never been touched is 19 thou which is a lot but the bolt holes would still line up. Can you provide a picture ?
Here's what I have. A few people have said I should be ok even though they are about .25 mm over what the RAVE says. I'm wondering what folks on here think. And if maybe using slightly thicker gaskets - if thats even an option.
