Default Cost Estimate

What do you think the estimated cost would be to having the MAF sensor replaced and the traction control sensor replaced (in shop)?

You should change the maf sensor yourself. Its easier than checking the oil. Its the only thing I've done mechanically with my rover that went smoothly.

The MAF is stupid simple to replace, you should not pay for that. It is plug and play and you just need a screw driver. The ABS sensor is easy too but you have to take the rotors off. I would expect a shop to charge you 1-2 hours labor, the sensor is cheap if you buy one used (talking DII).

Okay, so I can do the MAF myself then, but how about the traction control sensor? Theres a guy selling an '04 DII that needs a new MAF sensor and a traction control sensor. I'm just trying to figure out how much it would cost to replace those parts.

I said above the ABS sensor is about a 1 to 2 hour job and cost $100 new and about $20 used.

The MAF for a DII is cheap, what is he asking for the truck?
As for the ABS, could be almost anything, but there is no "traction sensor".
The SLABS unit controls the traction control with the ABS.
TC and ABS are one in the same.

I think that is good for an '04. Like I said a MAF is no big deal and the ABS sensor also is no big deal. Are the 3 amigos on?

Is it close enough for you to go and test drive?
Has he gotten the ABS codes read or is he guessing? Same with the MAF, is he guessing?
A new SLABS unit is not cheap, you might be able to talk him down quite a bit on the price and steal this truck.

He said hes got the 3 Amigos. He said he nailed a brick sized rock and then the 3 amigos popped up. He took the truck in to get it diag'd and apparently they isolated it to a sensor in the left front wheel. I talked him easily down to $7,500 for the 60k maintenance, and I bet that I could get him lower. The truck has brush scrapes down the sides as well, but thats just cosmetic.

He lives about 1.5 hrs from me, so yes, I could test drive on the weekend, or even during the week if I felt abmitious enough. What should I be looking for if I test drive the vehicle, and if it were the SLABS unit, what can I expect to pay to have it up and running (ill probably take it to a shop because I would like to have the vehicle running ASAP, we have a climbing / camping trip scheduled for the weekend of the 31st and it would awesome to have the rover running for the trip!).
