But you were right, a big operation will buy in large volume. Jasper Engine does 60,000 engines a year. They are about $2200 for a v-8 Ford engine, 5.8 liter, plus $420 core + few other items + install by your dealer + freight. Now some of that is pass thru profit to the installing dealer I imagine.

One thing we are not considering the advertised price, it that THE price or os that just the price of their least expensive rebuild?
This is why he needs to call and get a quote.

Yep, that could be the price for a Yugo. Rovers could be higher, remove engine could be extra, install engine could be extra, shop fee, environmental fee, etc.....

The text is pasted from their response to my request for a quote for rebuilding a 2004 Disco 2 4.6 including R&R. It did not appear to be a robo-response. If I can get some time over the holidays, I'm going to do a drive-by and check the place out.

With a 3 year warranty, what would a guy have to loose?

His sanity in having to deal with the repercussions.

Yeah, I don't know man. That looks like a lovely area. Think I counted 5 boarded up houses before I gave up exploring. Not sure how much I'd trust that place.

could be the guys had the motor sitting on the shelf for years and want to blow it out,
could be a pos go find out.

At a certain point manufactured motors drop in price greatly because they are no longer in demand, there arent a lot of people throwing motors in 10 years old cars.

I short time ago I bought two 5.0 ford factory rebuilds (complete motors) for under $500.ea, the reason was Ford had stopped useing the 5.0 so the was no need for them to stock warranty 5.0 motors any more.

Yeah, off subject but I remember the 5.0 surplus. We had a few of them new in the crate collecting dust at the dealer. If you remember there was a bad batch that were spinning camshafts and the factory fix was to swap the motor. They were doing like one a week for a while. Then they stopped coming and the new motors just sat and collected dust. Think a couple of the mechanics ended up with them. So even an otherwise reliable motor has its problem children.

Good luck with your research, if it's for real, the word will spread (like legs) fast around here; they'll be flooded with business. At that price I could have my Disco II shipped from Utah, have a completely remanufactured engine installed and running, shipped back to Utah all for less than the machine work with new sleeves and parts needed to assemble a short block and still have enough left to take a trip to Vegas.... count me in.
