Default Couple of questions about my 04

Just a few questions that I need expert advice on...

First, while replacing my crank sensor, I dropped the exhaust, while doing that 3 of the 6 bolts broke off (1 on drivers side, 2 on passenger side) of the exhaust manifold. Question is, can I remove the manifolds and drill out the bolts and just drop in a bolt and nut that fit or should I do something else about it? Like buy new manifolds?

Second, I'm going to replace the plugs and wires. I'm going with the Bosch +4 plugs, where can I find a set of red 8mm wires. The only thing in red I can find are the MSD but they are 8.5mm....can I use those instead of the standard 8mm and how do MSD wires hold up? Every wire set I have found is blue, but I have a Optima red top and yes I am being picky and I want red wires to match it.

Lastly, I rode in a guys D2 the other day and I noticed it was lifted, I know everyone says not to use spacers but he put on 2 inch billet spacers with the Terrafirma +3 sport shocks, it looks great and it rides a hell of a lot better than mine, which is on stock suspension with 92000 miles so the ride should suck, is there any reason not to go with that set up since it was so nice?

Any help is as always much appreciated...

By the time you buy spring spacers and shocks, you are very close to springs and shocks.
You are looking at probably $200-$300 just for the terrafirma shocks, plus what, $150 or more for the spacers... Another $100 and you can get new springs instead.

It probably rode so nice because it had new shocks.

I bought 8mm Kingsborne is red they also match my red top Optima lol. I have not had good luck with them but others on here have they are only around $50 so...I would think 8.5mm would be better insulated and a great wire.

I am also curious about spacers, I dont want a a huge one just a inch so am curious to see the replies. I ask the same question and no one responded

Sorry about the bolts.
Rule I keep ---
Never touch exhaust - unless you really have to.

Use a stud remover socket to try to get the studs out.
First blast them with WD40 or similar.

When removing studs - go out until resistance, then in a bit and then back out.

I bought new studs and nuts from:

Rimmer Brothers - Triumph Car Parts, MG Rover Car Parts, and Land Rover Car Parts and Spares

Just FYI: Anything over 8mm probably won't fit the brackets/clips. I have 8mm Magnecor and, for the most part, on my 04 had to squeeze those suckers in the brackets to clip and hold.

I have nothing to offer on your other questions as I ride stock everything.

To add to this...

I have a D1, but I think the manifolds are the same.

If stud extraction fails, you can drill out the studs with the manifolds still attached. I believe I used a 5/16" cobalt bit and an 8mm (40mm long) bolt.

The 8.5's are hard to fit into the wire holders and are overkill.
British Parts of Utah has STI and Magnacor wires.
Stay away from the spacers on your old warn out coils, save up a little extra and go with new coils and shocks.

Mike I want about a inch to two inch maybe inch and a half, what would you recommend? I am looking for a little more clearance for the oversized rims and tires. I do moderate off roading, nothing extreme. Looking to do it for $300-$400 springs and shocks. When I added the ARB bumper I put the rear springs from another Disco on the front but its not enough. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Shady I have 8mm wire clips that I will send you for free. I bought them with my 8mm wires but they fit in the stock clips. I just looked at them and if your 8.5 don't fit you can just drill them out a little but Im sure they will fit. If you want the Pm me your address.
