Question Crank Position Sensor Cover Disco 1

Anyone ever removed the cps from a disco one? did it have the non metal cover on it? I cant seem to get to the top of it to remove it. Im not sure if there is a bolt holding it on. If anyone has ever removed it, let me know because I do not want to break it.

On a D1, I believe there are 2 bolts holding the cover on.

is the cover necessary? it looks near impossible. if it gets broken, will the sensor remain safe?
