Default Cranking but no start...

Hey guys,

I parked the rover in the driveway today after driving it for a few minutes. Never had any issues. Now she just cranks and won't start. Here is what I have done:

Pushed the inertia switch
Locked and unlocked the car 3x with the key

I pulled a plug and didnt see any spark as my wife was cranking. I can't hear the fuel pump fire up when I turn the key either.

Any ideas why it would be running perfect and then all of a sudden stop? CPS maybe?

With no signal from the crank sensor the fuel pump will only come on for the first 3-5 seconds of when you turn on the key.
No spark...bad crank sensor.

Here's hoping thats all it is. Called Advance Auto and they will have it in first thing in the AM. $79.99. I'll replace it tomorrow and let you all know if that was the problem.

Well. Replaced the CPS this morning and it started right up. Sweet.

So water pump last week, CPS this week, I got one more to go since things happen in 3's. Lets hope it's a burned out bulb or something easy.

Thanks for the help, Spike!

It was actually pretty easy. The worst part of the job was trying to get the old gasket off. Tried everything and finally ended up using some "red stuff". Not perfect, but I spent hours scraping with a razor blade (carefully), 3M pad, Gasket Remover... The rest of the job was a cakewalk. If you decide to get into it, let me know and I may be able to help out.

Hey HumRoot, did your new CkPS come with a spacer, or did you use the old one? tks.

No spacers included. I had to use the old ones. Whole thing took me 15 minutes, pretty easy fix.

Things happen in 3's but with Land Rovers they happen in 5's.
