I am buying a used engine where I have received a carfax on the engine showing 26K miles. I have orderred it and it should be in any day now but I was just curious if there is a way to cross reference a VIN to an engine to make sure I am getting what is being advertised.

Yes, but it is a bit of a pain in the ***. If you have the vinn, you can have a dealer go back to Rover, if the records are still there and they can tell you the motor number.
