Default cruise control

Couple weeks ago my cruise quit working. Vaccum line was badly cracked, replaced. Cruise worked, but it does not maintain the speed which I set it at. It will hold the speed a short time then just gradually goes down. Checked all other vaccum lines, they are fine. Inspected and cleaned connections at cruise, no change. Anyone have any ideas?

I presume that you replaced all the vaccum lines. If so, then check the brake switch, to see if it working properly and in the right position with the pedal. The main vaccum pump on most discoveries are in the front of the vehicle below the jack, and throught the woods we go. It is a pain to get to. There is a vaccum line that leads to it. follow the yellow brick road. If it is a loss of cruise that is complete and you are not able to reset. Another problem is the relay for the cruise. You will usually hear a clinking noise when they are going bad. In most the relays for the cruise is in the passenger side floor cover panel. check the book for you vehicle to be sure. They should click once. The is also a canister for the vaccum on the top of the motor, it has a rubber bladder that may be giving you the problem. Also check the fuses for the system. You can do a forum search for the problem. It may have other ideas. Hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff

Set the speed, holds it for a couple miles, then drops 2 or 3 mph. Travel another couple miles, drops another 2 or 3 mph. Just keeps going till about 50 mph and seems to hold right there.

Check the actuator for cracks. Sounds like a slow leak the Vac. pump can keep up with to some extent.

preston, did you ever have any luck fixing this? I am experiencing the same gradual slowing behavior in my 99 Disco 2.
