Cruise control jerk/surge/clunk
Ok, picked up my truck last night. Very happy, it's in better shape than I thought after they did an excellent detail job!
The only thing weird was I was cruising home at 65mph on the highway, using the cruise control. I noticed the CC wasn't as smooth as it is on most cars. I could feel it getting on and off the gas. I haven't felt one that bad since I tried using cruise on my turbo Focus and the computer wasn't programmed for all that extra torque.
Eventually it settled down, or I got used to it. But, every once in a while, I'd get a fairly harsh "bump" or jerk. Just one shot. But it would happen every minute or so. Almost felt like the engine missfired or something. I took the cruise off, and the truck felt fine. I was able to replicate the jerk by getting off the gas, and then sharply getting on it again. There's some backlash through the entire powertrain that snaps a little when it's taken up, and I guess the CC isn't operating as smoothly as I'm used to.
Is this all normal for these? This is my first truck, and I know it's full time 4 wheel drive, there's a lot more parts spinning around.
I had a Subaru WRX which is AWD, and it didn't have backlash like that. But, it didn't have big driveshafts and live axles.

Check all the vaccum lines at the cruise control unit as well as the on that goes up to the 2nd. brake switch. Leaks will really cause the system to not run right.
make sure your cruise and throttle cables are adjusted right also, there was a bulletin on the d2 for cruise hunt,I think it was a software issue,I'll have to get back to you on this one
My cruise control does the same thing except for the Noise.............. I have an 03 SE and from what I can tell it is fairly normal for Rover cruise to not be too smooth... After contacting dealer he also confirmed that it is normal for the cruise to surge......
