personally the DII is the one for me, no contest. If I wanted pure value I'd drive a camry but since I'm not doing that for once in my life I picked the LR that spoke to me. The LR3/4 models are hopefully built better but let's see where they are in 10-15 years. Plus they are ugly(my opinion only, no offense to any of you who like them). A top to bottom coat of bedliner won't help, either...

If you have not driven an LR4, do yourself a huge favor and go do a day at the Land Rover experience closest to you. They are thee most insanely capable vehicle I've ever driven. They make my modded DII look like a joke off road, and it only had street tires on it. LR4 will kill any DII offroad(short of clearance).

I'm a fan on the DII but what I saw a LR3 do with street tires knocked my socks off....pretty amazing but I will stick with my DII

I had a chance to drive an LR3 on forest service roads several times... It made washboard dirt track seem like the city streets in Seattle... Effortlessly gliding over every bump. We had one at work for a mountain top site service vehicle and had it all tricked out with roof rack/winch/snorkel/bull bar with lights, etc. I believe it met or exceeded everything a Disco can do with a bit more room and of course comfort.

Especially cool was the ability to drop the airbag suspension down low enough to get into a parking garage with the roof rack in place. Or conversely you could raise it up to get a little extra heighth when needed, as long as you were going under 25mph.

Am I correct on this?
Just stuff in my head collected from reading posts on this BB

So then:
1999 D2 - 4.0L OK and has GEMS engine control??
2000 D2 - 4.0L OK - has Bosch engine control.
2001 D2 - 4.0L OK - has Bosch engine control
2002 D2 - 4.0L OK - has Bosch engine control
2003 D2 - Certain VIN range Avoid - 4.6L drops sleeves, has oil pump problem and has Bosch Engine control. has fancy headlights.
2004 D2 - OK - 4.6L Bosch Engine control. has fancy headlights.

The 03 and 04 have the same bosch engine 4.6. With the same headlights. The 04 has a lockable transfer case. 03 doesn't. 03s aren't that bad. SOME had oil pump problems. If it made it past 60k it's usually good. Any of them can have a slipped liner

10 years out, I don't believe there is any reason to avoid an 03 Disco. If it was in the VIN range it is either dead now or has had the problem corrected. Period. Should be end of story.

Exactly, there is no point in continuing to put that shiz out there about the 03's. It just confuses newbies and it takes all credibility away from anyone still posting warnings about it.
